D.A.W.G. SOP
(Disaster Animal Welfare Group)
I. PURPOSE
D.A.W.G. will set up a temporary kennel intake for owned animals and stray animals in a disaster area. D.A.W.G. is dedicated to the people who have lost everything they own. D.A.W.G. will do what they can to take the stress away from them by taking care of their animal while they put their life back together.
II. ASSIGNMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Director:
1. The director will be notified of any disaster in which animals are involved.
2. The director will then notify the D.A.W.G. staff and advise them where to set up.
3. The director will assist the other animal control offices in the hot zone of the disaster.
4. The director will stay in contact with the D.A.W.G liaison to stay informed of the disaster.
Animal Control Officer
1. The ACO will pick up all stray animals in the disaster area.
2. The ACO will work in pair if possible.
3. The ACO will assist the kennel supervisor in managing the kennels.
Kennel Supervisor
1. The kennel supervisor will log in all the animals that come to the kennels.
2. The kennel supervisor will comfort the owners of the animals that are brought in.
3. The kennel supervisor will keep records of supplies used and needed in the kennel area.
Kennel Tech
1. The kennel tech will make sure that all animals have food, water, and shelter.
2. The kennel tech will make sure all kennels are clean.
3. The kennel tech will properly train all volunteers.
Liaison
1. The liaison will keep the director informed.
2. The liaison will meet the needs of the kennel supervisor.
3. The liaison will keep the ACO’s informed of the people needing help with the disaster zone.
Volunteers
1. The volunteers will assist the kennel supervisor and kennel tech in setting up and taking care of the kennel area.
2. The volunteers will assist the ACO’s in the disaster areas (trained in animal control).
3. The volunteers will get their instructions from the D.A.W.G. staff.
III. Intake of animals
All animals will be checked in and proper paper work will be done. All animals that are brought in by their owners will have a name and the extra information the owner has.
IV. Reclaims
Reclaims will be done by the owner of the animals. The owner will have proper ID.
V. Moving Animals
The kennel supervisor will start moving stray animals after 24 hrs to the animal control center. The ACO’s and volunteers will assist in the move.
