VOLUNTARY ORGAIZATIONS ACTIVE IN DISASTER (VOAD)
Mission –
The Calhoun County VOAD is a humanitarian association of local non-profit organizations fostering efficient, streamlined delivery of resources to people affected by disaster, while eliminating unnecessary duplication of effort, through cooperation and coordination in the four phases of disaster: preparation, response, recovery and mitigation. All non-profit, faith-based and service organizations in Calhoun County are encouraged to join and participate.
Organization Structure
VOAD is a national non-operational umbrella organization, which gives each of its members the privilege of independently – but cooperatively – providing and implementing its resources when responding to disasters. The Calhoun County VOAD meets on a regular basis to plan for and to educate the members about how they may serve their community before, during and after a disaster. The organization seeks to prevent the duplication of effort through collaboration of available services in natural or manmade disaster such as fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, flash floods and wildfires.
Information resources are: disaster supplies distribution, temporary housing, childcare, volunteer coordination and pastoral care. Our focus is on collaboration and communications for disasters. We provide education and training and opportunities to serve our community when it is most needed.
Membership
Membership is open to any non-profit, faith-based and service organizations in Calhoun County that desire to serve our community after a disaster. Always remember that disasters come in both big and small sizes and can happen at any time year round.
From Hurricanes to single structure fires VOAD is here to help.
